For decades, Jojo Mayer acquired virtually every pedal on the market searching for the perfect pedal that had both striking power and adequate beater return. Fast forward a few years later and after countless variations of parts, drive systems and footboards, Jojo Mayer’s ideal pedal has finally come to fruition. One of the biggest features of this new pedal is the folding capability allowing for easy and compact storage. This new feature also works in conjunction with the self mounting clamp. Once the pedal is calibrated to the appropriate bass drum hoop size, all it takes is a simple unfolding of the pedal to lock it into place allowing minimal set up time. The days of fiddling with a pedal to grab onto a bass drum hoop are well and gone. The drive cam and the beater hub are also a single unit for a reduced mass, while the round cam creates equal forward and backward acceleration thus creating the perfect balance momentum in the pedal. Upon playing this pedal, I could actually feel the equal forward and backward momentum. The pedal had great response in the beater return which is something I noticed was a problem in other pedals. I also noticed that it was fairly easy to execute heel-toe patterns thanks to the longer footboard. Like Jojo Mayer said, this pedal has a soul and feel of a vintage pedal reincarnated in the technology of 21st century body.
