The Shure KSM313 is a bi-directional mic, but with a difference. Shure calls it "dual-voice". Addressing the mic from one side or the other produces a distinctly different EQ. Addressing the front of the microphone delivers a warm, full sound that starts to roll off at about 6-7000 Hz and is ideal for horns, guitar amps, and many instruments. Addressing the rear side of the mic offers a bright, more articulated sound (doesn't begin to roll-off until about 8-9000 Hz) which is great for vocals.
