In early 1958 Fender made the earliest version of their top of the line guitar, the Fender Jazzmaster with a maple neck and fingerboard, anodized pickguard and black pickup covers. I have always thought that this was one of Fender's most beautiful designs. The alder body is enhanced by a rich Black Lacquer finish topped off by one of the best feeling and playing maple necks on any Fender guitar ever. Why didn't we think of this before?
