The Atlas Series dreadnought guitars are different from other available dreadnoughts - pinless bridge, JLD bridge truss system, scalloped bracing. These differences lead to a more resonant dreadnought, which compares well to much more expensive models. Breedlove AD20/SM is built with a solid spruce top along with a solid mahogany back. The mahogany back/sides result in a warm, bright and woody tone, particularly in the bass, which is deep, yet not overwhelming. The AD20/SM model also does not have a cutaway, which results in a larger body and thus more unplugged volume, although the uppermost frets (beyond the fifteenth) are a bit of a reach. (Those seeking to play the uppermost frets should check out the AD25/SM model, which is a similar dreadnought but with cutaway option and Fishman electronics.) The AD20/SM model does not come with electronics, and thus no additional holes have been cut in the body. Breedlove's AD20/SM has a black headstock along with tortoise binding and a glossy finish, both of which complement the mahogany well. Other features include gold Grover tuning machines, dot inlay pattern, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, along with Micarta nut and saddle. The model also comes with Breedlove's hybrid soft shell case, which, unlike a floppy gig bag, provides definite protection.
