In homage to a true and truly missed master of the instrument, Fender has crafted the Jaco Pastorius Tribute Fretless Jazz Bass. The "Jaco" features a select alder body, C-shaped maple neck with polyester-coated slab-cut pau ferro fingerboard, two vintage-style Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, knurled chrome Precision Bass control knobs, and a special Jaco tribute neck plate.
Jaco Pastorius was a beacon for generations of aspiring bass players, bridging the gaps between R&B, rock, jazz, classical and Caribbean music. He changed the musical world with his uncanny gift and visionary approach to the instrument, and he did it with one fundamental tool—a Fender Jazz Bass guitar. His playing style was noteworthy for containing intricate solos in the higher register. His innovations also included the use of harmonics and the "singing" quality of his melodies on fretless bass. In 2006, Pastorius was voted "The Greatest Bass Player Who Has Ever Lived" by reader submissions in Bass Guitar magazine.
