Bare Knuckle pickups has already earned the reputation of making incredible pickups. We certainly agree. Their vintage-style humbuckers are the real deal, hand wound (scatterwound like the best of the old pickups) using vintage correct parts and wire.
Tim Mills, of Bare Knuckle, had the opportunity to actually work on Jimmy Page's original Les Paul (the one he calls #1) and when he says this set of humbuckers are as close as you'll get to the pickups in that Les Paul (used to record much of Led Zeppelin II and later albums) we believe him! So we put together this set- a Riff Riff in the bridge and a Mule in the neck, complete with aged nickel covers.
The Riff Raff humbucker is based on the shorter rough cast Alnico V PAFs of 1960, with a more symmetrical wind of 42 AWG plain enamel wire providing more focus in the upper-mids and brighter highs. The Riff Raff delivers an aggressive vintage tone and unmistakable rock voice.
The Mule humbucker, (4-conductor to wire out of phase as in Jimmy's LP) is built and voiced as a faithful reproduction of the best sounding late '59 PAFs with a differing number of turns of vintage correct 42 AWG plain enamel wire on each coil. This results in outstanding clarity and extended dynamic range. The solid nickel silver baseplate and cover are exact replications along with the butyrate bobbins, maple spacers, nickel-plated slugs and Fillister no.5 pole screws. Sand cast Alnico IV magnets give The Mule faster response in the bass, fuller mids and better control in the high end.
This aged nickel Jimmy Page humbucker set is packaged with the Tone Pros aged Nashville Tunamatic bridge (ABR bridge version available on request) & tailpiece. Tone Pros bridges and tailpieces lock onto the posts providing better sustain and stability.
