So Many Mics, So Little Time…

Don't let anyone tell you that there's ony one way to mic a particular instrument. The recording process is all about creativity. Some of the coolest recorded sounds have come about when some engineer broke "the rules". For example, the Shure SM57 is a pretty standard mic for recording guitar cabinets. In my most recent session, I decided I wanted a bigger, more open sound. After trying several different mics and combinations, I went with a two-mic setup, using a Sennheiser E906 and a Royer R121 ribbon mic. It took some tweaking as far as positioning in front of the cabinet's speakers, but I was totally blown away with the result! Check out these two great mics here at Rainbowguitars.com.
