What kind of amplifier should a beginner purchase?
Usually, a beginner should select an amp that sounds good enough to inspire without blasting out the whole house. The needs of a beginner typically do not include being louder than a drummer. Drummers are usually a big factor in guitar amp selection. A loud drummer makes a big, blaring amp a must! A good beginner guideline is 15 to 30 watts of power. Any more than that, and it could be more power than you need! Some great suggestions for smaller, cool sounding amps are: Fender, Line 6, and Roland (the Micro Cube is a stellar value).
