Shure PGX Series Wireless Products: Best Buy
One of the advantages of buying less expensive products by the same company whoses upper-end products lead in a particular niche is what I call the “trickle-down technology” effect. When a company has developed technologies for their upper-end products, often those expensive technologies eventually “trickle down” to the company’s less expensive models.
This is demonstrated in the case of Shure’s PGX series of wireless products. Shure is a huge player in the concert wireless world. For their concert products, Shure developed a companding method that offers demonstrably superior audio quality (quickly: the compander is the method by which audio waves are joined with radio waves in order to be transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver). Shure calls its compander technique Audio Reference Companding. And guess what- that compander circuit, which started out in only the highest price Shure products is now a feature of all PGX models.
How does that help you? If you do a side-by-side comparison of a PGX microphone system with other wireless products in its price range, you’ll notice a clearer, less “boxy” sound. The audio quality of PGX series is definitely superior to most other models in its price range.
Let’s look at some of the other PGX features: an ample menu of 90 frequencies; a VERY simple one-button user interface (press and hold to power up, press once to mute, press again to un-mute, press and hold to power down), and Shure’s industry-leading 2-year warranty.
Shure’s PGX series wireless products win my “Best Buy” rating.
